ひさしぶりに乗ると怖いね＞＜

Yesterday, being a day off, I decided to give my hands a rest and do something other than programming. With the two main objectives of being able to easily try out the KDE4 dev snapshots and having 32bit flash work in 64bit Konqueror, I settled on giving OpenSUSE a try. I spent 2 hours downloading the DVD ISO, verified its MD5 and then burnt it. Half way through installation I found out that it hadn't burnt properly - ok, my fault for not verifying the burn.

I'd read that a network install was also possible and had the details for JAIST's mirror written down and punched 'em in. No luck. :/ I'd already killed my Gentoo installation so I was left with only the tools on the DVD to get things going. I rebooted into its "rescue environment". Rescue environment? Hah! About the only tool that I could make use of was ssh.

Ssh'ing into the office, I was then able to use telnet to find that JAIST had stopped responding. Ok.. I pulled the details for the kddilabs mirror and tried again. Everything seemed to be going well until I started getting timeouts. Back to the mirror list. :/ Nothing looked good so I ended up grabbing the details for the master mirrors, download.opensuse.org. The URLs shown were of the form download.opensuse.org/distribution/... but after telnet'ing and trying a GET request the result was 404. Lynx'ing to the IP, I find that the structure was really /pub/opensuse/distribution/... and that the hostname download.opensuse.org aliases into there.

Trying again with the master mirror, everything was able to be installed. I went through setting the root password, a user account and installing all available updates to my installed package set. Then came hardware detection. Halfway throught it I was dumped to a blank console with only a cursor sitting at the top left. Couldn't even switch consoles... Ok, power off and on again. Then came hardware detection again with the same result. I gave it a few more tries and ended up corrupting the filesystem.

By that time it had almost reached midnight. So, I disconnected my one piece of non-essential hardware, started the install from scratch, skipped setting up my RAID1 /home partition and left it overnight to download and install. This morning, it was waiting for me to set up passwords and such. I went through and decided to completely skip package updates with the result of hardware detection succeeded - though I don't know if package updates was the cause.

Booting into the installed system, I went to figure out how to set up a bridge over my two ethernet interfaces (a temporary arrangement so as to allow my wife's laptop to access the internet until we go wireless). Lo and behold! It had only detected one of the interfaces. It's not even listed in dmesg. I gave up, shut it down, plugged my wife's laptop directly into the adsl modem and left it for this evening.

Funny thing is, a Gentoo installation would have gone flawlessly and probably taken only half the time.

[UPDATE: The lack of detection of the second network card was due to me selecting failsafe mode during the second installation. Checking out grub's confuguration, I found 'acpi=off apm=off ide=nodma' and other such "goodness". As for bridging? Well, if I hadn't have been a RedHat user many years ago, let's just say that I wouldn't have been able to do it.]

初夏の陽気に心が躍り仕事が手に付かない鈴木です。
嘘です、追い込まれています(´・ω・`)

しかしながら今日は暑い日でした。７月並の気温だったようです。
今の時期からこんなんじゃ、夏はどないなんねん！というところでございます。
既に地球温暖化は始まっており、もしかするともう止めることは出来ない瀬戸際なのかも知れませんが、そんな中でみなさんエコ活動はしておられますでしょうか。

最近ですと企業本体が主体となって事業的にエコ活動をしていることがよくニュースで取り上げられておりますが、残念ながらリンクシンクはインターネット屋さんなので、電気代節約＆タクシーを使わない＆裏紙を使おう＆トイレットペーパーは1メートルまで、くらいしかできません。１メートルじゃふききれません、ごめんなさい。
あ、ゴミの分別も。

で、そんな中で個人的にこういうものに私は賛同しております。

なんか使い古された感のある「チーム・マイナス６％」のフレーズですが、趣味のクルマでもその意識を持とうと日本自動車連盟（JAF)の「ふんわりアクセル・eスタートを心がけよう」運動に激しく同意しています。

私はロードスターに乗っているわけですが、高速道路や街乗りでも低回転＆定回転スロースタートを心がけるようにしています。
そんな感じなので、燃費も他のロードスターより圧倒的に良く、お財布にも優しい感じです。

燃費走行が結果的にいろんな意味でいいのは明白で、耐久レースなどでもプッシュするよりエコ運転を心がけているチームが優勝すると言うことはよくあります。

これからクソ暑い時期になりますが、みなさん少しでも地球を冷やすために、企業・個人共々エコを心がけていければいいなぁ、と思いました。

ニイハオ！最近自転車通勤部に入部したたむさんです。（現在部員１名）

いや～朝の運動っていいですね。
朝はハイテンション大会にでたら間違えなく
ドＳ浜ちゃんに冷たい目線と共に無言で退場をうながされるであろう、
朝はテンション低い私ですが、自転車通勤するとすごいんです！
すがすがしいんです。午前中からてきぱき仕事をやる気になるんです。
＞「え～でもただの自転車でしょ？」
＞違うよ。全然違うよ。
＞「自転車でそんなに健康になれるの」
＞毎日せっせとコントレックス１リットルのんでいるんだ。最近代謝がよくなった気がす　る
　　けど、でも自転車だけのおかげじゃないと思う。だけどきっかけは自転車かな～

とにかく前回の鈴木さんに続き「チームマイナス6％」にシンクロしてるのです！
連日の５月なのに真夏のような暑さ。おかしくないですか？
確実に地球温暖化はじわじわと進行していると実感しております。
自転車はガソリンも使わないし、ＣＯ２も排出しないし、エコな乗り物ですよ。

最近巷ではちょっとした自転車ブームですね。
ピストというほぼ競輪仕様の一切無駄を廃した
（ブレーキなし、ギアなし、己の脚力のみの操縦方法をとる）
自転車を某有名スポーツブランドが広告に
使い、物議をかもしましたね。
「チョイ悪」なんてカテゴリーができて
アウトローな感じがカッコイイとされているのでしょうか。
まぁ　影響力のある大きいブランドは悪はチョイでも
それだけ影響力があるから・・・よい子が真似しちゃうのでしょうか。

ちなみに私は丸腰デカなのでちゃ～んとブレーキつけて
ライトもつけて安全運転命！です
